"Inspiration" Screenings

Hamish Henderson - An Artist's Inspiration is being toured around Scotland throughout 2026. The next screening is at the Robert Burns Centre in Dumfries on April 17th followed by the Highland Cinema in Fort William on th 19th April and the Girvan Folk Festival from May 1st to 3rd. Further screenings (at dates to be announced) will take place at the Stonehaven Folk Festival, the Byre in St Andrews and in Montrose.

After the film, two men who knew Hamish well, will talk about the man and his achievements..

Willie Hershaw, editor of the Scots langauge magazine, Lallans, explains how Hamish helped to give clout

to Scots, with elements of the language still used every day by most people in Scotland.

And Professor Fred Freeman, now teaching at Scotland's Royal Conservatoire, studied under Hamish at the School

of Scottish Studies and was a close friend.

The Boat in the Writing Room

This film about poet and sculptor, Ian Hamilton Finlay's 'overture' to his garden at Little Sparta, by Biggar, is also screening this year. It investigates the year he spent at Gledfield in the Highlands, where many of the ideas that later came to fruition at Stoneypath/Little Sparta were first conceived.

Two dates have been arranged, so far. One at Dalkeith Palace, outside Edinburgh, on September 13th and one at the Biggar Little Festival on October 21st. Others will follow. You can find out more about this film here.
